“Edward, do you have to leave?” I asked. I had been trying to get him to stay. But he wouldn’t budge. I knew he had to go hunting, I just hated that he’d chose this for a bachelor party. “But Edward, why don’t you have a real bachelor party with your brothers?” he’d chosen to go hunting with Jasper, Emmet, and Carlisle instead of having a human bachelor party. And he wanted his party to be somewhere in the Colorado mountains, so he would be gone for about a month. I did not like the idea of being alone for the time he would be gone. I knew Alice, Rosalie, and Esme would still be here but I still didn’t think my hold on him was enough to keep him here forever.
“Bella, love, you know I have to go hunting sometime. And it might as well be as close to our wedding day as possible if I am going to be near all of the people Alice invited.” I knew all of this already. He had said this over and over again in the last hour. “And besides, why would I want a human bachelor party,” he pretended to shudder at the thought. “It wouldn’t be entertaining. I’d much rather bag a few mountain lions for you as a wedding present.” He said grinning.
“Fine!” I grumbled. “Do what you want.” I was finally giving in to him, but mostly to make him happy so I could get what I wanted.
“Bella,” he sighed. “Bella, I know you still think I will leave you and not come back. I promise I will come back.” He knew I still thought he would leave and never come back. So, of course he was telling me everything would be ok. “And anyway, what kind of groom leaves his bride before the wedding?”
“When are you leaving?” I still got nightmares when he left. And we were living in his house so I would be embarrassed about the waking and screaming and everyone coming to see what’s wrong. This was going to be horrible.
“Early tomorrow,” He said grimly. I knew he didn’t like to leave me because I was so prone to accidents. “Do you want me to wake you?” He asked though I was pretty sure he knew the answer.
“Yes.” I said. Then out of nowhere I thought about Jake. “Edward?” I asked.
He heard the change of tone and suddenly became cautious. “Yes?”
“I was wondering sense you’re not going to be here, do you think could, I mean, you could tell everyone I am aloud to see Jake if I feel like it?” I asked. I knew Jake was still in love with me and I knew I should have stopped converse with him as soon as I had told him we couldn’t be friends but I just couldn’t. But every time I called Billy hadn’t answered the phone. And as I wrote to Jake and the other werewolves I never got replies. I wondered why. And now if I could I would drive down and find out.
I felt Edward go abruptly stiff next to me. I wondered what the problem was. “What?” I asked.
“Bella I need to tell you this but,” his face was ashen. Like he knew that what he needed to tell me would do something. I started to panic. “Bella, Jacob is gone.” At first I didn’t understand.
“So, you mean he moved? Where to? Why didn’t Charlie tell me?” when h started shaking his head I got confused. “So, by gone you mean?”
“Bella, he ran away.” He hugged me tight. And let me cry on his shoulder while I was asking un-understandable questions through my sobs. “Bella, he ran away three weeks ago. After everyone found out we were getting married. Charlie asked me not to tell you until he and the police were sure they wouldn’t find him.” His voice was pained. “I am so sorry Bella.” He hugged me tighter.
“I I don’t under understand,” I cried. Why would Jake run away? How could he do this to me? He should know I still care about him. “Oh no! This is all of my fault! Edward why am I such a horrible person? I should have stopped our friendship right after you got back, Why didn’t I,” I broke off when I knew he couldn’t understand what I was saying.
“Bella, it wasn’t your fault. It still isn’t. I am sure they will either find him of he will come back. He wouldn’t leave Billy to take care of himself, would he?” I shook my head while still sobbing. How could this of happened? Why wouldn’t Charlie want to tell me until they knew they wouldn’t find him? Why was this happening now of all times? I continued to sob for what seemed like hours, though it proudly was. Then finally as I drifted off to sleep Edward picked me up and carried me over to our bed.
As I fell asleep I already felt the nightmare coming.
“Jake? Come on I know you’re here! Jake?” I yelled. I was climbing in the dense brush of the forest. But it didn’t seem like the forest of Forks. Suddenly, my legs came up from under me. I yelped. Someone was leaning over me. Someone I didn’t recognize.
“Bella, so you’re Edwards so to be wife.” This girl was a vampire. She was more beautiful than Rosalie. She had long red hair, a very thin body, and lots of muscles.
“Tanya, why don’t you just bag the girl to go? We will bring her back to the wolves later, but I feel we could have some fun with this one.” someone said for behind Tanya. My heart was starting to beat faster and faster and these two vampires could tell that I was getting scared. And the one behind Tanya said, “Don’t worry Bella; we won’t let you die without having some fun first. And I’ll let you call your precious wolves and Edward. Though I don’t understand why he picked you over my sister. You’re really not that pretty.” Oh no. these vampires were going to kill me.
“Jake! Help m—” that’s all I got out before everything went black.
I woke up screaming and crying. And of course I thought Edward would be at my side in a minute. But he wasn’t there for what was probably three minutes that seemed more like tree hours.
I couldn’t really hear him over the sound of my sobs but it sounded like he said, “I didn’t think she would start having nightmares right after I told her.” Edward just held me while I cried. “Shhh, Bella, shhh. You’re ok. It was just a dream. Nothing’s going to happen to you. Shh.” He started to rock me back and forth in trying to have me fall back asleep. He finally called very softly, “Alex,” I heard the door to our bed room open then close.
“Yes Edward?” a quiet voice asked. I looked up to see a beautiful woman with big gold eyes, a little body, long blond hair and a small but sincere face.
“Alex, could you put Bella to sleep.” I didn’t understand what he was saying but then I felt another cold had on my back and everything went back.
When I opened my eyes again I found myself in Edwards’s arms. I looked around and noticed it was bright outside. That’s when it all came back to me. The news, the nightmare, the strange person last night, and the crying. I turned in Edwards arms and snuggled up in his chest.
“Edward? Who was that last night?” I asked. I really wasn’t sure If it all was a dream or not. “Or was that all a dream?”
He shook his head and muttered something I was sure he hadn’t intended for me to hear, “I hoped you hadn’t noticed.” He sighed. “That was Alex. She is an old friend. I met her in those years I had left Carlisle. She came because she heard that we were getting married. And she was mad because she hadn’t been invited.”
“How come you didn’t tell me she came? Or was even coming?” I asked get mad now. First he didn’t tell me about Jake running away and now he doesn’t even tell me when his friend is coming for a visit.
“Bella, she just came without telling anyone. She is like a little sister to me. So she is allowed to come when she feels like it. She is a part of our family. I just wish you could have met her before that last night. By the way, what scared you so much last night?”
I didn’t tell him I had a bad dream. It made me kind of mad that he hadn’t been there right when I woke up. And it had taken him about two or three minutes to get here to find out what was wrong. It was like he hadn’t even care that his fiancé’s best friend had run away, and that she was sure to have nightmares because of that. But he was nowhere to be found until about three munities after I had woken from the most bone chilling dream I had ever had.
I didn’t tell him anything. I just got up and started getting my clothes together. And when I was about to change I turned to him and said coldly, “if you will excuse me, I need to get dressed so I can meet this, Alex.” He stared at me with an expression of hurt, fury, and shock. But he got up and closed the door behind him. “I’ll be back up in 5 minutes.” He said through the door. I heard his silent retreat.
Once I was sure he was gone I ran into the bathroom and turned on the shower. I started to get undressed but then there was a knock on the door. “Bella?” Alice’s worried voice came through the door. “Bella can I come in?” all of the Cullen’s must have heard me last night. It was embarrassing and depressing.
“Sure Alice. But I need to get into the shower really soon.” I unlocked the door. The person on the other side was not Alice. It was the other girl from my dream. Not Tanya but the one that had been behind her towards the end of my dream.
